Inspect Washing Machine Hoses and Connections
A routine look behind the washer can uncover hose wear, loose connections, and small leaks.

Washing machine supply hoses stay under pressure whenever their valves are open. Checking the connections and the floor nearby can reveal warning signs before a hose fails.
What to check
- Look for bulges, cracks, rust, abrasion, or dampness along both supply hoses.
- Check the connections at the wall and machine for drips or mineral deposits.
- Make sure the drain hose is secured as the manufacturer specifies and is not kinked.
- Keep the machine level and avoid overloading it, which can cause excessive movement.
- Know how to close the hot and cold supply valves if a leak develops.
Do not move a stacked or very heavy appliance by yourself. Have damaged hoses or corroded valves replaced by a qualified person, and follow the appliance manufacturer’s replacement guidance. Renters should report wear or leakage rather than modifying plumbing connections without authorization.
