Keep the Dryer Lint Path Clear
Cleaning the lint screen and watching for a restricted exhaust helps the dryer operate safely and effectively.

Lint can collect in the screen, behind the dryer, and inside the exhaust duct. Regular attention reduces buildup and helps damp clothes dry normally.
After every load
Remove lint from the screen before or after drying. If you use dryer sheets, occasionally wash the removable screen with mild soap and water according to the appliance instructions, then let it dry completely.
Periodically
- Check behind the dryer for lint and make sure the exhaust duct is not crushed or sharply kinked.
- While the dryer runs, confirm that the outdoor vent flap opens and that air is flowing.
- Keep the area around the dryer clear of boxes, cleaning products, and other combustible materials.
- Arrange for the exhaust duct to be cleaned when airflow drops or drying takes longer than usual.
Do not run the dryer when you are away or asleep. Stop using it if you smell burning, see scorch marks, or notice unusual heat, and contact a qualified appliance or vent professional. Renters should report duct or exterior-vent concerns to the property manager.
