Control Moisture Before Mold Takes Hold

Ventilation, prompt drying, and routine checks can keep everyday moisture from becoming a larger problem.

By KL Properties

Bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and laundry areas regularly produce moisture. The goal is to move that moisture out and address leaks quickly instead of letting surfaces stay damp.

Everyday habits

  • Run the bathroom exhaust fan during showers and leave it on afterward long enough to clear lingering humidity.
  • Use the kitchen exhaust fan when cooking, especially when boiling water.
  • Wipe condensation from windows and sills rather than letting it soak into trim.
  • Leave space around stored items so air can circulate along cool exterior walls.
  • Dry wet materials promptly and investigate any moisture that returns.

A small humidity meter can help you spot consistently damp rooms. If you find widespread mold, sewage-contaminated water, recurring dampness, or moisture inside a wall or ceiling, avoid disturbing the area and seek qualified help. Renters should document and report leaks, failed exhaust fans, and mold concerns promptly.
